Janet Davies Contemporary Art
Hi, I’m Janet
I paint vibrant, colorful paintings that are my response to life and to make the invisible, visible.
I never know what will happen when I begin a painting. It’s like a dance, it’s about listening and showing up for what I feel and responding to what’s already present. It’s a way for me to explore my emotions and witness them in an authentic and transformative way. Drawing on inspiration from inside myself, life’s experiences, and nature, I bring connection and raw honesty to the surface in a way I couldn’t do otherwise.
I make art to explore the invisible landscapes of who we are and our connection to everything around us.
The Skullies..
I came from a family that avoided loss and death and anything that had to do with it. This always made me feel disconnected and disoriented around death. Something important was missing.
When I moved to Tucson and discovered the rich Mexican tradition of Dia De Los Muertos, I felt like that missing piece had been found, the human need to honor and remember our dead and to do this with others.
This beautiful celebration inspired me to paint my interpretation of Calaveras. I paint them to honor my lost loved ones and to honor our collective losses. Loss is a powerful human experience that we all share. Every single one of us will know loss.
